“Look up,” Wes said.
We have come to Wes’ hometown of Ramona this weekend.
“They’re so pretty,” said Amanda referring to the stars.
“I grew up in a place where you could see the stars too,” I said.
It is in times like these that I begin to think life is worth living. That life can be better than we sometimes imagine. I am reminded of Jacob seeing God in the middle of nowhere in a dream while sleeping on a rock. I want to sleep on rocks and dream of God.
Lately I have been thinking a lot about what it means to be a better person. What I keep coming back to is Deuteronomy. God reminds us, “Be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery” (Deut. 6:12). Do not forget about what God has done in our lives. Because so often we lose the big picture when we are in the hustle and bustle of the city life that we are blinded to the stars.
“I think I’m going to go to bed,” I said.
I opened the window slightly in the room that I was sleeping so I could see the stars.
